How to read this map

Derived from Freight Data Watch modeled regional dry-van pricing estimates. Colors do not measure observed load counts, truck availability or expected box-truck pay. State groupings and illumination are illustrative, not state-level measurements. The October 28 values and color categories are retained after the November 4 review. A consistent fresh source view could not be verified: the source map and rates views differed, and the observation date remains undisclosed. This is a dated modeled snapshot, not a measured weekly change or a current box-truck demand signal.

Box-truck sample
The Oct 30 approved sample averages $1.84 per loaded mile across 34 advertised OTR offers; the median is $1.79. Broader inclusion and the switch from median to mean prevent a direct market-trend comparison with the earlier $1.98 historical reference. Gross offered pay is not confirmed booked revenue.
Broader freight
DAT’s November 2 report gives $2.23/mile excluding fuel for the week ending October 31, up 3¢ against its reported prior-week $2.20. The $3.05/mile including-fuel figure remains the dated October month-to-date snapshot checked October 28; no fresh all-in replacement was verified. Map values are also retained from October 28. These dry-van indicators do not establish a comparable change in BTO’s box-truck offers.
Action
At 10 MPG, the 6¢ diesel decrease saves about $6 per 1,000 total miles. Use your own MPG and all-in costs; do not add fuel again if already included. The advertised OTR and final-mile references remain unchanged.

How the Final Mile average is calculated

Average advertised gross pay: $693 per truck-day (unrounded $692.72), from 30 company-market quotes across ten employers. The sample median is $725. Captured October 21–23, 2026; selected in the October 28 review and approved by Mark. The original 28 quotes were rechecked October 23; the two additions were corroborated through indexed descriptions October 28. These are dated retained advertisements, not 30 newly posted or confirmed active openings. This convenience sample is not a representative national average, guaranteed payment or actual contractor settlement.

Each company-market quote is equally weighted. There are 20 daily and 10 weekly offers. Advertised ranges use their midpoint. Eight weekly quotes assume six operating days because schedules are unpublished; the remaining two explicitly state six and seven days. Separately quoted fuel surcharges and bonuses are not added. Gross pay is before truck, driver/helper, fuel, insurance and other operating expenses; fuel treatment varies.

Coverage: Northeast 6, Midwest 7, Southeast 6, Southwest 6 and West 5 quotes. J.B. Hunt supplies 15 of 30 quotes (50.0%). Nineteen retained quotes were corroborated through listing cards or employer indexes; eleven through full descriptions. Retrieved content may be cached. Original posting dates and current openings are mostly unconfirmed, and equipment and crew details are not independently confirmed for every quote.

The approved October 28 selection adds Velour Coast Logistics in Alexandria, Louisiana ($500–$700/day) and Home Delivery Inc in Pittsburgh ($600–$900/day) to the retained 28-quote sample. The earlier 35-quote review, held records and expired FGO Phoenix capture remain historical. The change from $694 to $693 reflects sample composition and does not establish a market-rate decline. New research after this approval remains separate and has not been promoted into this reference.

Repeated company-market listings are collapsed. Lower-bound earnings, multi-truck minimums, annual-only pay and unweighted per-stop or per-route schedules remain excluded; separate route tiers are not averaged without weights.

What the OTR average means

The average gives each captured advertised offer equal weight. The median is the middle rate in the sorted sample. Both describe gross offered revenue per loaded mile before expenses; deadhead reduces revenue per total mile. Neither is a pricing floor, guaranteed payment or representative national transaction average.

How the OTR sample average is calculated

Captured and approved October 30, 2026. Rate per offer = advertised carrier pay ÷ source-listed loaded miles. Average the 34 unrounded offer rates, with equal weight per offer: $1.84 per loaded mile (unrounded 1.8434093265). Median $1.79; observed range $0.32–$3.82. This is not total pay divided by total mileage; that separate mileage-weighted ratio is $1.68.

Coverage: Northeast 8, Midwest 9, Southeast 5, Southwest 6 and West 6 offers. Sources: Direct Freight 32 and Atlantic Logistics 2; independent broker/feed diversity is not established. Collection checked nine boards and 15 states; 199 raw rows were screened. Counts are offer observations, not proven unique freight.

Inclusion: Public domestic offers explicitly tagged BT/box/straight truck with positive carrier pay and source-listed loaded mileage. The OTR headline includes 500+ loaded miles with full or unspecified load type. Mixed tags containing BT are accepted and flagged unless details conflict with box/straight equipment. Missing fuel treatment, posting date, load ID, authority age, insurance, GVWR or cargo weight does not block entry; unknowns remain unknown. Explicit wrong equipment, conflicting 53-foot requirements, implausible values, past pickup dates, cross-border offers and missing essential figures are excluded. No automatic high/low price trimming is used.

Separate groups: Local 1–149 miles, regional 150–499 miles and explicit partial/LTL offers are collected separately and do not enter this OTR mean. This capture retained 31 regional, 6 local and 1 partial observation outside the 34-offer headline.

Duplicates and freshness: Exact source/lane/pay/miles/load-type/pickup-date repeats are collapsed. Different pickup dates may remain separate advertised observations, not proof of separate physical freight. Current page capture does not establish original posting date or present bookability. Pickup dates extend through November 19. No fuel or accessorial amount is invented or added.

Limitations and sensitivity: Four offers have mixed BT/other equipment tags, including extreme low values. Restricting to the 30 box-only tags/explicit descriptions gives a $1.98 mean and $1.85 median. One main-sample BT offer lists 29,000 lb of cargo; this is a broad box/straight-truck sample, not a verified non-CDL-only sample. Keeping one observation per city lane gives 30 offers and a $1.87 mean. Retaining only known cargo weights at or below 10,000 lb gives 27 offers and a $2.06 mean, without proving non-CDL eligibility.

Method change: This replaces the $1.98 historical median from ten October 19–20 captures. The new headline is an arithmetic mean under broader eligibility rules, so the difference does not establish a market decline. The earlier approved sample, expired-offer and possible-duplicate caveats, and legacy $1.66 modeled estimate remain in the research history. The complete evidence is retained in BTO’s ledger, Public Offers Oct30.
