October 29 update: RXO reports growth in Last Mile stops
RXO reported increased Last Mile activity in its October 29 third-quarter release. Stops rose 5% from a year earlier, and its unaudited service-offering table lists Last Mile revenue of $334 million, compared with $305 million in the same quarter of 2025. The figures cover the quarter ended September 30, 2026. [4]
The acquisition remains pending. RXO’s release continues to describe an expected closing in the first half of 2027; that is an expectation, not a completed transaction. [4]
C.H. Robinson’s proposed $5.8 billion stock-and-cash acquisition of RXO would bring together brokerage and managed transportation networks, including RXO’s expedited and last-mile operations. Announced October 5, the agreement has approval from both boards; closing is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory, RXO shareholder and other customary conditions. [1]
After closing, C.H. Robinson plans to integrate RXO mainly into its North American Surface Transportation division. Management targets approximately $300 million in annualized net cost savings within two years of closing. Those savings are an expectation, not an achieved result. [1]
The transaction website promotes a denser carrier network, improved matching and digital booking. Separately, C.H. Robinson’s October 28 results reported approximately 3.5% year-over-year growth in North American Surface Transportation volume and discussed integration planning. [2] [3]
The standard shareholder consideration is $17.25 in cash plus 0.0856 C.H. Robinson shares for each RXO share, with an implied value of $30.25 at the reference price used in the announcement. C.H. Robinson says it will use new debt financing for the cash portion. These are transaction terms for shareholders, separate from commercial terms offered to carriers. [1]
The companies explain the savings plan in several parts: more efficient operating workflows, centralized shared services, reduced duplication in outside services and consolidation of real estate. They also describe potential insurance-procurement efficiencies. The transaction website presents these as anticipated benefits of combining the businesses, not a published schedule of carrier contract changes. [2]
What this could mean for small carriers
BTO analysisRXO’s last-mile and expedited operations make the proposed deal relevant to small carriers. Its reported stop growth offers context about the network, but does not confirm an available route, higher contractor pay or a change to an existing agreement.
For carriers already working with either company, the practical developments to watch are formal notices about booking systems, settlement contacts and contract terms. A change affecting one business unit should not be assumed to apply across the network.
What remains unresolved: The reviewed materials do not provide a market-by-market contractor transition plan, replacement box-truck rate sheet or completed integration timetable. The acquisition remains pending; network growth alone is not a basis for adding equipment.
